How Doctors Can Explore Australia's Largest Outback City

By Melinda McCarthy published on 20/03/2024 Emergency Medicine Jobs, Ochre Recruitment /

Exploring the landscape is a big drawcard for many of our Locum Doctors. Kalgoorlie is one of those destinations that if places could talk, would have many interesting stories to tell.

Kalgoorlie is Australia’s largest outback city with a population of 30,000 people from 48 countries. In this modern and vibrant city residents enjoy a relaxed lifestyle, surrounded by a diverse natural environment. Kalgoorlie is known for its strong community spirit, with over 150 sporting and community activities and groups.

Whether you love the outdoors, are a keen sportsperson or want to expand your cultural experiences, Kalgoorlie has something for everyone. Local walking tracks and camping adventures await.

Sports play a large role in the Kalgoorlie community, with everything from horse racing and golf to indoor rock climbing and local rugby clubs. The city has a strong arts scene, with rich Aboriginal culture and a multi-functional arts venue. Use your photography skills to capture the stunning sunsets or take a walk around town and soak in the street murals and turn-of-the-century architecture.

Why Work at Kalgoorlie Health Campus

With more than 100 inpatient beds, Kalgoorlie Health Campus is one of the largest regional hospitals in WA, servicing the city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder and the surrounding Goldfields shires, including 13 Aboriginal communities.

The campus provides comprehensive clinical services including outpatient and visiting specialist clinics.

The Emergency Department (ED) is a busy ED that sees approximately 27,000 presentations per year and has a 12% admission rate. Cases are diverse with presentations ranging from primary care to major trauma, with many patients presenting with comorbidities.

The medical workforce comprises Consultants, Senior Medical Practitioners, Registrars, and Resident Medical Officers all working together to provide high-quality, safe patient-centered care.

Outstanding locum opportunities for Specialist Emergency Medicine Doctors

We're currently looking for FACEM's that can cover 1 or 2 weeks per month regularly from now until Jan 2025.

Those with availability to commit to 1 week on week off, or 2 weeks on 2 weeks off will be highly regarded. Shorter blocks will also be considered.

Shifts are rotating: morning 08:00 - 18:00 | mid-morning: 10:00 - 20:00 | afternoon 13:00 - 23:00

This is a great opportunity to earn $3,500 per weekday & $3,700 for weekends and public holidays.

There is a requirement for you to be on-call (rarely do you get called out) and the on-call is shared evenly with everyone on the roster.

Kalgoorlie-Boulder is the regional centre, servicing other towns and providing a regional transport hub. The East-West railway passes through Kalgoorlie-Boulder, and the airport hosts regular flights in and out of Perth.

Sometimes a change is all you need... to re-charge your batteries and gain a new sense of purpose. Working with a variety of healthcare professionals and patients at new sites like Kalgoorlie will give you a sense of perspective, open your mind to new possibilities, and re-invigorate you.
