The Yorke and Northern Local Health Network provide GP and Emergency care to over 16 health services. As a collective, they are currently looking for locums to staff Port Pirie (ED) Wallaroo (ED/Wards) Bolleroo (GP/ED) Balaklava (ED/Wards) Maitland (ED/ Wards) and Yorketown (ED)

They play a part for a South Australian Virtual Emergency Service (SAVES) program for the overnight on-call shifts, operating from 7pm to 7am, seven days a week for not only these locations but 34 participating rural hospitals across South Australia.

For this particular locum, Central Yorke Peninsula Hospital (Maitland) provides an acute service ranging from in-hospital care for adults and children by local general practitioners to outpatients and aged care beds.

The Location

A popular choice of FIFO Emergency Medicine Doctors, the Maitland district is now recognised as one of the best barley growing areas in Australia. By the 1910s the town, because of the wealth flowing from the production of barley, had a reputation for affluence.

Situated a top of a ridge, overlooking the Spencer Gulf and Yorke Valley, Maitland is geographically the central town on Yorke Peninsula, only a 15 minute drive from both the east and west coasts.

You're probably wondering how the barley is famous in this part of the world, It's due to the rainfall. It certainly rains here more than other parts of the Yorke Peninsula which enables Maitland to be surrounded by some of the best barley country. The town's layout was designed to be like Adelaide, with plenty of parklands and straight streets, making it a very pretty town. South Australia will continue to be a firm favourite for Emergency Medicine locum Doctors.

Maitland has a historic walking trail that winds its way past heritage buildings and the National Trust Museum. The Maitland Hotel was one of the first buildings built in 1874. Initially, it was only one storey high and used as the local community hall.
