The Opportunity

A new, modern, purpose-built facility providing a 24-hour emergency department. Hedland Health Campus is the largest hospital in our region. It is the Regional Resource Centre.

Our emergency department see's on average 77 patients presentations per day. There are 10 beds in ED (with 8 children's beds), 24 beds in the ward, and 6 in maternity. The ED in Hedland has an excellent mix of Paediatric and Adult Emergency Medicine.

The ED shift times are:

ED1 – 7:30-17:30

ED2 – 08:30-18:30

EDW - 10:00-20:00 or 17:30-22:30

ED3 – 12:30-22:30 x 2

EDN – 22:00-08:00 x 2

There is generally 1 doctor per shift. Usually 1 RMO per day.

There is Anaesthetic/OBS/Surg on call support.

The location

Port Hedland is the second largest town in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, with an urban population of 15,298 as of the 2021 census, including the satellite town of South Hedland, 18 kilometres away.

It is also the site of the highest tonnage port in Australia.

It is famous for its massive resource industry, long trains, big ships and salt piles. It is just as rich in Indigenous culture, pioneering history and wildlife and a great spot for fishing and crabbing, whale watching and turtle nesting.
