The Opportunity:

An exciting opportunity to work as a CMO in the Emergency Department at Forbes Hospital. This rural facility has approximately 30 inpatient beds and a busy Emergency Department managing around 9,000–12,000 presentations annually.

The ED provides exposure to a broad range of presentations including acute medical, trauma, paediatric, and mental health cases. Doctors are well supported by an experienced multidisciplinary team, with access to on-site diagnostics and strong referral pathways to larger regional centres. This role is ideal for clinicians looking to expand their scope of practice and gain valuable rural emergency experience in a supportive environment.

You will be covering the ED and wards at Forbes Hospital which provides a range of services including acute care, general medicine, gastroenterology, maternity and more.

• Face-to-face clinical handover with day doctor at 1730 – 1800 and 0730 – 0800 in the Emergency Department.

• You will be required to be onsite from 1730 to 2300. The on call doctor overnight is expected to attend the hospital when requested to attend by Nursing staff.

• Provide medical care to inpatients, complete discharge summaries and review admitted patients as requested.

• Provide onsite medical care to patients presenting to the emergency department.

• Provide medical care to admitted postoperative patients.

• Complete contemporaneous and comprehensive clinical documentation in eMR.

• Provide and lead clinical review, rapid response, trauma and cardiac arrest services across the facility 

• Check pathology and radiology results in the ED results message centre ordered by any doctor, follow-up and document management plans for any results needed further action and review any patients returning for follow-up of results. 

• Provide surgical assistance in theatre when required.

• Participate in the training and supervision of students, junior medical officers and registrars. 

• Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings, MDT meetings and other clinical meetings as requested.

Essential Criteria:

• Full AHPRA Registration
• Full Australian working rights
• ALS2 or equivalent
• Experience in rural remote settings
• Recent Experience working in ED
