Alice Springs has an interesting array of cases that you might not see in other Hospitals, the workload is manageable and this locum location is popular amongst Emergency Medicine Doctors. Let's be honest, who does not love the Top End?! It's known to have a nice working environment. People are friendly and helpful making it easy to fit in as a short term locum. The accommodation provided always receives good feedback from locums.
Mix of shifts on offer, days, evenings, and nights.
$130 per hour - 10 hour shifts
FIFO Travel and accommodation included
During the day, Alice Springs has all of the specialities available. For the specialities that don't exist, there are designated teams in Darwin or SA to call. At night, the medical registrar, paediatric doctor, and O&G doctor are available and on site.
Surgical cases overnight go via general surgery, and this team is only available if surgical input can't wait until morning. There an ICU Doctor and a retrievals doctor on site overnight. X-ray and CT are available until midnight each day, any time after that they need to be called in. Ultra Sound is available on weekdays. There is a FACEM on call who will help too.
Presentations can be variable day to day, there will be quiet days and other where there's a steady flow of patients. Registrars see patients but also help out supervising juniors.
The Location
Emergency Medicine Registrar Doctors that locum in the top end absolutely love to explore the beauty which offers: Camping, Trekking, Golf, Hiking, Horse Riding, Hot Air Balloons, Cycling, Swimming, Diving, World-Class national parks and experience our unique aboriginal culture that is 22,000 years old.
Locum ED Doctors love what Alice Springs has to offer with unique landscapes & rich cultural heritage. But that's not all - you'll discover amazing sunsets and delicious cuisine.
Alice Springs is where the adventure awaits. Positioned between the East and West MacDonnell Ranges, Alice Springs is known for its desert landscapes and its people who have shaped its history. The region holds a strong cultural connection to traditional custodians, the Arrernte people.
Bella Alice (pizza / pasta) and Loco Burrito are highly recommended.
The national park to the west is an interesting place if you have a day to go for a drive. The Ochre Pits, Serpentine Gorge, and any of the gaps which have nice little water holes. The bird show at the animal park is also worth going to see. As an FYI, we don't have anything to do with the Ochre Pits, cool name though!
If you love Golf, Alice Springs has a tremendous course - https://northernterritory.com/alice-springs-and-surrounds/see-and-do/alice-springs-golf-club
