The opportunity
The locum opportunity is for an Emergency Medicine Specialist. The hospital is a 60-bed district public hospital with an Emergency Department that operates 24/7 serving a regional population of 19,000 residents with 80% of patients of Aboriginal background. Patients requiring a higher level of care are retrieved by Careflight to Royal Darwin Hospital. Seeking 2 week on/2 off or similar FIFO.
The location
Katherine is located on the Katherine River below the "Top End". It is known as the place where the outback meets the tropics. The town is a 3-hour drive from Darwin. Katherine is popular for fishing, stunning natural wonders, and rich indigenous culture. It is best known for the extraordinary Nitmiluk National Park, home to world-famous gorges and rock arts.
Essential criteria
To be eligible for this locum you must have
- Australian working rights
- FACEM specialist registration on AHPRA
- Must have rural experience and solo ED nights experience
- Up-to-date trauma training (adult life support, paeds life support, neonatal resus).
