The Opportunity

Ochre Medical Centre King Island has an exciting opportunity for a Rural Generalist GP VMO to practice from our King Island general practice and also participate on the VMO roster at the King Island hospital.

The practice is the only medical centre on King Island and as just over 1400 active patients. Typically the practice supports 2 GP VMO rural generalists. The practice actively participates supporting young Interns and Junior Medical Officers as part of the John Flynn program. The practice is well equipment with all the necessary equipment and accreditations and is located adjacent to the local hospital.

The King Island Hospital provides emergency and acute care, as well as a range of outpatient services, including physiotherapy, podiatry, and mental health support. The hospital is classed as a Tier 1 hospital and accepts ATS CAT 1-5 patients and is part of the Tasmanian Health Service.

  • MMM7 eligibility for rural WIP payments, HELP-FEE elimination or moratorium reduction
  • House and car provided to support VMO services
  • Relocation assistance can be provided
  • Practice is supported by visiting Allied Health, and Registered Nurses to assist with CDM, immunisations and women’s health
  • On and offsite operational and clinical management support
  • Work along side Junior Medical Officers as part of the John Flynn program
