Rural GP VMO – King Island, TAS

At Ochre Medical Centre King Island, you’ll find more than a job — you’ll discover a new way of life. We’re looking for a Rural Generalist GP (VMO) to join our small but vital team, providing GP care to the King Island community and participating on the VMO hospital roster.
The role:
You’ll be one a GP VMOs serving a tight-knit community of just over 1,400 people. Based at the island’s only general practice — located right next to the local hospital — you’ll enjoy a hands-on, full-scope role with real impact.
The King Island Hospital offers emergency and acute care and a mix of outpatient services, including mental health, physiotherapy, and podiatry. It’s a Tier 1 hospital accepting ATS CAT 1–5 patients as part of the Tasmanian Health Service.
What we’re offering:
- Daily rate for VMO on-call = $200k per year
- $2000 site visit grant through the People Project, for eligible applicants
- MMM7 + DPA location
- Eligible for:
- WIP rural payments
- HELP-FEE elimination
- Moratorium reduction
- ACRRM Independent Pathway & RVTS
- Option for FIFO or relocation
- House and car package value: $60k
- Relocation assistance available
- Strong admin and clinical support (on and off-site)
- RN support for CDM, immunisations, women’s health
- Latest Best Practice software on secure cloud-based systems
- Involvement in the John Flynn Placement Program – work with junior doctors
- A happy, high-quality practice – 95% of patients would recommend us to others

Who we’re looking for:
- General or Vocational Registration with AHPRA
- ALS2 or equivalent emergency medicine certificate
- A passion for rural practice and experience in emergency care
