The opportunity
We’re looking for an experienced Rural GP (VMO) to join our team at Ochre Medical Centre Smithton and provide on-call services to the Smithton District Hospital.
You’ll be one of up to 7 GPs sharing the hospital roster, supported by a fantastic nursing team and visiting specialists. The hospital includes:
- 12 acute care beds
- Emergency department
- Midwifery clinic
- X-ray facilities (with training provided if required)
This is a rewarding, hands-on role where you can really make a difference — while earning well and living well.
What’s on offer:
- Excellent earning potential — combine GP and VMO billings
- $2000 site visit grant for eligible applicants through the People Project
- $1,200 per day VMO rate (increasing soon!)
- DPA/MMM5 location – moratorium reduction and access to financial incentives
- RVTS & ACRRM Independent Pathway eligible
- Procedural Grants and GPRIP payments apply
- X-ray training provided
- Relocation, car, and accommodation support
- 1:4 to 1:6 VMO roster
- Strong admin and clinical support, with RN-led CDM, immunisations, and women’s health
- Regular visits from allied health and specialist services

You’ll need:
- General or Vocational Registration with AHPRA
- ALS2 / REST or equivalent emergency medicine certificate
- Confidence managing common ED presentations
- Recent experience working in an unsupervised emergency setting
