The Opportunity
As part of the roster you will provide GP consults, share ward rounds and a 1:2 on call roster for emergencies. The weekends and after hours rosters are very manageable with a 4 hour session in the ED from 8am- 12pm then on call for emergencies. The eclectic mix of residents gives you the opportunity to experience a diverse scope of practice. The Medical Centre includes 4 modern consulting rooms and is adjacent to the hospital. The Walgett MPS has 2 Emergency and 11 Acute care beds, as well as transitional aged care, residential aged care, X-Ray, pathology and renal facilities. The Medical Centre operates Mon- Fri and the town also has a dedicated Aboriginal Medical Service to support the high proportion of Indigenous residents through culturally appropriate medical care.
The Location
Located 648km north-west of Sydney via Mudgee and Gilgandra, Walgett sits proudly at the junction of the Namoi and Barwon rivers. This area has been home to the Kamilaroi Aboriginal people for at least 40 000 years. With a ‘recorded’ population of 2145, the town boasts a Catholic Primary School, Community College, TAFE & Sports grounds. There’s six restaurants and food outlets in addition to the local RSL Club, News agency and National Australia Bank. Relax and unwind in the Artesian Bore baths at a naturally heated temperature of around 42C. Take the fishing rods as this is the perfect river town where you can drop in a line. Experience the cultural houses and museums where there is an extensive collection of local Aboriginal arts, crafts, and jewellery as well as plenty of colonial history to take in.
Essential Criteria
- FRACGP or FACRRM
- Recent rural emergency experience
- Current ALS2 (or equivalent) certificate.
