The Position:

This is an exciting locum opportunity with a highly rated Aboriginal Medical Service that provides culturally appropriate Primary Health Care to support the health and wellbeing of the community. You will work alongside a dedicated team of GPs, Registered Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners/Workers, Midwives, Allied Health professionals, visiting Medical Specialists, and Administration staff. The clinic uses Communicare software and operates Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with no emergency department, on-call, or weekend work required. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in a supportive and collaborative environment.

The Location:

Mornington Island is a remote, culturally rich island located in the Gulf of Carpentaria, off the coast of northern Queensland. It is part of the Wellesley Islands group and is home to the Lardil, Yangkaal, and Gangalidda people. The island offers a unique and vibrant cultural experience, with traditional art, music, and ceremonies deeply rooted in the community’s heritage. The island’s landscapes are a blend of mangrove swamps, saltwater lagoons, and beautiful beaches, making it a haven for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. Mornington Island is also known for its close-knit community, where local services, including healthcare, education, and community support, play a vital role. While remote, it offers opportunities to engage in meaningful work and make a real difference in the lives of the island's residents.

MM7 Location. This location qualifies for additional financial incentives through the Workforce Incentive Program (WIP). Eligible GPs can receive significant financial support based on the area's classification. Essential criteria

  • Holds specialist General Practitioner registration with AHPRA
  • Fellowship with RACGP or ACRRM
  • Australian citizen or permanent resident
  • Strong primary care experience in rural or remote settings, ideally in Indigenous health
  • Cultural awareness and understanding of the unique challenges facing remote Indigenous communities
  • Experience working with Communicare Software
