The Position:
This is an exciting locum opportunity with a highly rated Aboriginal Medical Service that provides culturally appropriate Primary Health Care to support the health and wellbeing of the community. You will work alongside a dedicated team of GPs, Registered Nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners/Workers, Midwives, Allied Health professionals, visiting Medical Specialists, and Administration staff. The clinic uses Communicare software and operates Monday to Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, with no emergency department, on-call, or weekend work required. This role offers the chance to make a meaningful impact in a supportive and collaborative environment.
The Location:
Normanton is a small, historic town located in the far north of Queensland, Australia. Nestled along the Norman River, it serves as the gateway to the Gulf of Carpentaria and is known for its charming outback character and picturesque landscapes. The town has a rich history, particularly tied to the pastoral industry and the development of the region’s infrastructure. It’s a popular stop for those travelling to nearby attractions, such as the vast Savannah Way, and offers visitors the opportunity to experience traditional outback life. Normanton is also home to significant Indigenous cultural sites and communities, with the Gkuthaarn and Kukatj people being the traditional owners of the land. The town’s relaxed pace of life, combined with the surrounding natural beauty, makes Normanton a unique and peaceful place to live or visit, offering access to both remote landscapes and essential services.
MM7 Location. This location qualifies for additional financial incentives through the Workforce Incentive Program (WIP). Eligible GPs can receive significant financial support based on the area's classification. Essential criteria:
- Holds specialist General Practitioner registration with AHPRA
- Fellowship with RACGP or ACRRM
- Australian citizen or permanent resident
- Strong primary care experience in rural or remote settings, ideally in Indigenous health
- Cultural awareness and understanding of the unique challenges facing remote Indigenous communities
- Experience working with Communicare Software
