Locum VR GP AMS - Wadeye, NT (MM7)

The Opportunity

Working with another GP on site, you will also have the support of very experienced Remote PHC Nurses, Aboriginal Health Workers and support from the Darwin based GP’s if needed.

Traveling to the community across the weekdays, weekends will then be spent in Darwin with the returning flight on Friday afternoons. Whilst in the community you will work from 8am – 5pm with no on-call requirement. Nurses undertake the on-call duties and any emergencies after hours are directed to the DMO on call team via phone. It is PCIS software in use.

Due to the remote nature of the community an ALS2 or equivalent is required and once DMS approval is in place, one of the visiting GP’s will speak with you to understand the unique set up of the community.

Paying $2673 per day plus GST travel, including flights, accommodation, and a vehicle, will be provided, allowing you to focus on making a meaningful impact in the community while enjoying the unique lifestyle that Wadeye offers.

About the location

Wadeye is a unique and culturally rich community located about 270 km southwest of Darwin, accessible by a 50-minute flight or a longer drive. It has a population of approximately 2,700, primarily made up of Indigenous people from various clans, which contributes to its diverse cultural tapestry.

As for weekends in Darwin, it is a unique destination that offers a mix of natural beauty, rich Indigenous culture, and tropical adventure. Visitors can experience vibrant waterfront markets, spot crocodiles in their natural habitat, and enjoy spectacular sunsets over the Timor Sea.

How to get there

This FIFO role will see you travel to Darwin initially and across all weekend with the Friday afternoon flight from Wadeye.. Ochre Recruitment arranges all flights, transfers, and accommodation for your placement. 4 weeks minimum is preferred but 3 weeks can also be considered.

Essential criteria

·        Fellowship with RACGP and/or ACRRM

·        Current AHPRA Specialist GP Registration

·        Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident

·        ALS2 /APLS/ REST

·        Experience in rural or remote primary care, ideally Indigenous health

·        Cultural awareness and respect for Aboriginal communities
