The opportunity

Step into a rewarding locum role in Docker River (Kaltukatjara), a small remote community near the NT/WA border. This is a GP solo role, though you’ll be supported by Aboriginal Health Practitioners, nursing staff and connected community health services to ensure you are never truly working alone.

You’ll provide care for a wide range of presentations, including chronic disease management, preventative health, and acute care, with 20-minute appointments. Clinic hours are Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm, with no on-call, weekend or after-hours requirements.

About the location

Docker River (Kaltukatjara) is a Pitjantjatjara community of around 350 people, located in the far southwest of the Northern Territory, close to the NT/WA border. The community is set against the backdrop of the Petermann Ranges, with sweeping desert landscapes and strong cultural ties to country.

It’s a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a remote desert community while contributing to essential healthcare services.

How to get there

Fly into Ayers Rock (Uluru) Airport at Yulara, then travel by road to Docker River (approximately 3.5 hours). Ochre Recruitment arranges all flights, ground transfers and accommodation for a seamless placement.

Essential criteria

  • Fellowship with RACGP and/or ACRRM
  • Current AHPRA Specialist GP Registration
  • Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Primary care experience in rural or remote settings, ideally Indigenous health
  • Cultural awareness and respect for working within Aboriginal communities
