The opportunity

This is a rewarding locum opportunity across Halls Gap and Ararat, working within a community-led Aboriginal Medical Service that delivers culturally safe, holistic healthcare. You’ll join a supportive team of nurses, Aboriginal Health Workers and admin staff, with visiting allied health specialists providing additional services.

The clinic operates Monday to Friday, 8:30am–5:00pm (first appointment 9:00am, last appointment 4:40pm), with a half-hour lunch break. Consultations are typically 20 minutes, with longer bookings of 40 minutes for GPMPs, health assessments, mental health plans and minor procedures. Occasional script-only patients may be added to the schedule.

How to get there

Halls Gap and Ararat are approximately 2.5–3 hours’ drive from Melbourne. Mileage or fuel reimbursement is provided (flights may be negotiated if committing to a long block). A vehicle is available if required to travel between Ararat and Halls Gap clinics.

Essential criteria

  • Fellowship with RACGP and/or ACRRM
  • Current AHPRA Specialist GP Registration
  • Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • AMS experience preferred but not essential
  • ALS certification preferred but not essential
  • Cultural awareness and respect for Aboriginal communities
