The opportunity

This is a rewarding locum opportunity in Mornington Island, located in the Gulf of Carpentaria. You’ll join a highly rated Aboriginal Medical Service providing culturally safe healthcare to the community, working alongside GPs, nurses, Aboriginal Health Practitioners, midwives, allied health professionals and visiting specialists.

The clinic uses Communicare software and operates Monday to Friday, 8:00am–5:00pm. There are no emergency department duties, after-hours or weekend work required. A minimum commitment of three weeks is required.

About the location

Mornington Island is part of the Wellesley Islands group in the Gulf of Carpentaria and is home to the Lardil, Yangkaal and Gangalidda peoples. Known for its rich cultural traditions, strong art and music scene, and vibrant community spirit, the island offers a rare chance to experience life in a remote Indigenous community.

Fly into Cairns or Mount Isa, with connecting regional flights available to Mornington Island Airport. Ochre Recruitment arranges all flights, transfers and accommodation.

Essential criteria

  • Fellowship with RACGP and/or ACRRM
  • Current AHPRA Specialist GP Registration
  • Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • Experience in rural or remote healthcare, ideally Indigenous health
  • Cultural awareness and respect for Aboriginal communities
  • Familiarity with Communicare software desirable
