The opportunity
Step into a highly rewarding locum role supporting two remote Indigenous communities in Central Australia. Working across Ntaria (Hermannsburg) and Utju (Areyonga), you’ll provide vital primary healthcare with the support of Aboriginal Health Practitioners, experienced nurses, and strong links to regional health services. While the work is GP solo, you’ll always have the backing of a collaborative and well-connected clinical team.
You’ll manage chronic disease care, preventative health, and acute presentations, with 20-minute consultations allowing for quality patient interaction. The role is Monday to Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm, with no on-call, weekend, or emergency work required. Blocks are available throughout the year, with a minimum two week commitment.

About the location
Ntaria (Hermannsburg) and Utju (Areyonga) are vibrant Aboriginal communities located in the spectacular West MacDonnell Ranges, around 125 km west of Alice Springs. This is an opportunity to experience Central Australia’s stunning landscapes and culture while providing essential healthcare to communities that value and respect your expertise.
Getting there is straightforward: fly into Alice Springs, where Ochre will arrange your travel to the communities - approximately a 1.5-hour drive on sealed roads. This makes the role accessible while still offering a truly remote Central Australian experience.
Essential criteria
- Specialist GP registration with AHPRA
- Fellowship with RACGP and/or ACRRM
- Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Primary care experience in rural/remote settings, ideally Indigenous health
- Cultural awareness and commitment to working respectfully with Aboriginal communities
