The opportunity
This is a rewarding locum opportunity in Yuendumu, one of Central Australia’s largest Aboriginal communities. Located around 300 km northwest of Alice Springs, you’ll provide primary healthcare Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm, with no on-call or after-hours work required.
You’ll begin with another GP to ensure a smooth induction, before transitioning into GP solo work once comfortable. Support is always available through connected community health services, nurses, and Aboriginal Health Practitioners.
Travel is straightforward: drive out to Yuendumu on Monday mornings and return to Alice Springs on Fridays. Accommodation is provided in-community, with the option to stay over weekends or spend them in Alice Springs depending on your preference. A car is also available for weekend use.

About the location
Yuendumu is a Warlpiri community of around 800 residents, located on the edge of the Tanami Desert. It is renowned for its vibrant art centres, rich cultural traditions and strong sense of community.
With weekends in Alice Springs, you’ll have access to modern amenities, cafes, galleries, and the spectacular MacDonnell Ranges, making it easy to balance work and lifestyle.
How to get there
Fly into Alice Springs, where Ochre Recruitment will arrange all ground transfers and travel logistics. Driving time from Alice Springs to Yuendumu is approximately 3.5-4 hours.
Essential criteria
- Fellowship with RACGP and/or ACRRM
- Current AHPRA Specialist GP Registration
- Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
- BLS or ALS required
- Remote Indigenous health experience desirable
- Cultural awareness and respect for working within Aboriginal communities
