Doctor Wanted: Escape the Grind & Practice Medicine in Paradise
Looking for a sea change or tree change? How about dolphins, wallabies, and a coastline commute? Join a legendary, tight-knit team on Flinders Island, where locals know your name and genuinely appreciate your care.
About the Practice:
Our well-established medical centre is the healthcare heartbeat of Flinders Island—the largest of the Furneaux Group of islands, between Tasmania and mainland Australia. We offer a true Rural Generalist experience, from GP consultations to emergency and inpatient services, all backed by a passionate, supportive team. This is a rare opportunity to work in a vibrant, caring community while practicing a wide scope of medicine in a beautiful, inspiring location.
Why Flinders Island?
- Nature as your neighbour: Granite peaks, white sand beaches, and no traffic lights.
- Community spirit: Patients know and appreciate you, often delivering fresh veggies in gratitude.
- Work-life balance: Surf in the morning, consult by lunch, hike after work. Repeat.
- Lifestyle meets career: A chance to practice full-scope medicine without the city grind.
The Role:
We are seeking a Full-Time GP/VMO to live on-island. You’ll be delivering full-spectrum bulk-billed GP care, emergency and inpatient services (with support), community health initiatives that truly make a difference, and team-based care alongside a supportive, fun, and professional team. Start date: Ideally from October 2026 onwards (can start off in a FIFO capacity to try it out before moving onto the island in January 2027)
What We’re Looking For:
- Vocational Registration (FRACGP or FACRRM), experience in emergency/inpatient care, strong communicator and team player with a passion for community-focused care.
Perks That Pack a Punch:
- Approx. $400,000 billings per year
- On-call earnings of roughly $170,000 per year
- House & car provided
- $100K GP Incentive Package over 5 years
- Relocation assistance (from Ochre and the People Project)
- $5,000 of airfares + $2,000 CPD allowance
- $2,000 site visit grant available (combine with a holiday!)
- GP NOW Rapid Response Team—ongoing rural GP support
- MMM7 practice: eligibility for rural WIP payments, HELP-FEE elimination
Why This Role is Special
Be part of a team that values you and your work, enjoy a balanced lifestyle while practicing wide-scope medicine, opportunity to become a local hero while making a genuine impact, flexible rostering, and work options to suit your life stage.
