Never worked in Tasmania? Scottsdale is where you start.

An easy hour from Launceston Airport — the gateway to your Tasmanian adventure. Real GP/VMO variety, and a roster you can book months ahead — as much or as little as suits you.

The Opportunity

Weekly shifts are available at Scottsdale Hospital right through to December 2026 — book as far ahead as you like, or take it week by week. You'll join a VMO team of three, alongside the dedicated GP team at Ochre Medical Centre Scottsdale, both owned and managed by Ochre Health.

On GP Clinic days you'll work 0800–1700. When you're on-call for the hospital, you're not rostered at the clinic — your attention is genuinely on one place at a time. Shifts run Monday to Saturday or Monday to Monday, handover 0800–0830.

About Scottsdale Hospital

Scottsdale Hospital has 18 beds, though inpatient numbers typically sit around 8, occasionally rising to 10. Presentations reflect the diversity of a rural farming and coastal community — from everyday general medicine through to trauma, and everything in between. ED sees a steady flow most days, enough to keep things genuinely interesting without tipping into overwhelming. The hospital also runs low-risk maternity.

Nursing runs three shifts: an in-charge nurse and three RNs in the morning, a healthcare assistant and three RNs in the afternoon, and two RNs overnight. Most of the nursing team live locally — real continuity, and genuine familiarity with the patients they're treating.

Doctors consistently say the same thing about this team: supportive, collaborative, and good for morale.

Catchment: Scottsdale, Bridport, and Ansons Bay.

Why You'll Love It

  • $2,000 per day (negotiable), paid fortnightly — your choice of PAYG or Contractor.
  • Flights, accommodation and car hire are all provided, with a dedicated administration team to book your travel for you.
  • A VMO team of three, on a 1:3 on-call roster. GP Clinic days run 0800–1700; when you're on-call at the hospital, you're not also rostered at the clinic.
  • Backed by a dedicated GP team at the Medical Centre.
  • Purpose-built medical centre, with 5 consulting rooms, a 3-bay treatment room, and on-site pathology.
  • Credential once, and you're free to work anywhere across the Ochre network.
