The Placement

Smithton sits on Tasmania’s spectacular North West coast — the gateway to the Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area, the Tarkine wilderness, and some of the most unspoilt coastline in Australia. A tight-knit community at the heart of the Circular Head region, with the Bass Strait on one side and old-growth rainforest on the other.

Ochre Medical Centre Smithton is the sole general practice serving the greater Circular Head region, providing general practice care to approximately 8,000 people across the largest district in Tasmania. Doctors at the practice have admitting rights to Smithton District Hospital, which provides 12 acute care beds, an accident and emergency service, midwifery clinic and a range of visiting services including radiology, physiotherapy, counselling, mental health, podiatry, diabetic, optometry, audiology and obstetric clinics, alongside community nursing and home help. As the GPVMO, you’ll cover ED shifts here. On-call is shared across the VMO team, with your roster confirmed ahead of your block.

The Essentials

• Fellowship with RACGP and/or ACRRM
• Current AHPRA Specialist GP Registration
• Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident
• Current ALS2 (or equivalent)
• Recent emergency experience within the last 18 months
