Coastal GP/Generalist – St Helens, TAS

Where turquoise bays meet top-tier medicine (and your patients might bring you fresh-caught fish).

If you’re a rural GP/Generalist who enjoys coastal living, community connection, and a bit of adventure between consults, St Helens might be your next perfect move. It’s Tassie’s largest town on the east coast – but still small enough for the barista to know your order (and probably your dog’s name too).

At Ochre Medical Centre St Helens, we’re a well-established, friendly practice that blends a laid-back lifestyle with high-quality care. We’re on the lookout for a GP who’s ready to dive into a varied, rewarding role alongside a dedicated team. Full-time preferred, but we’re happy to talk part-time if that suits your style.

About the Role

You’ll join a supportive crew of GPs, nurses, and admin staff, backed by the nearby St Helens District Hospital and a strong network of allied health services. The practice runs weekdays, standard hours – and yes, there’s an on-call roster, because rural medicine doesn’t always clock off at five.

Not based in town? We provide accommodation when you’re on call, so you can focus on patients, not travel time.

What’s on Offer

  • % of billings (VR), plus $1200 per on-call shift
  • Rural Medical Practitioner payments for hospital work
  • WIP and Rural Procedural Grants available
  • Eligible for RVTS, ACRRM Independent Pathway, and IMG Five-Year Scheme
  • House provided
  • Fully accredited, mixed billing
  • Well-equipped treatment room, daily pathology, x-ray available locally
  • Friendly, capable admin and clinical support
  • Best Practice software

Why St Helens?

This is coastal Tasmania at its best – a friendly town of around 2,000 people, with a thriving arts and food scene, fresh air, and some of the most beautiful beaches in Australia right on your doorstep.

You're:

  • Five minutes from the Bay of Fires and Binalong Bay
  • Two hours to Launceston
  • Close to Derby and St Helens’ own world-class mountain biking trails
  • Surrounded by fishing spots, hiking tracks, national parks, and local vineyards

It’s a community that values its healthcare professionals and offers a lifestyle that’s hard to beat.

What You’ll Need

  • General or Specialist AHPRA Registration
  • Emergency medicine certificate (ALS2 or equivalent)
  • A love of rural generalism and the flexibility that comes with it
