The Placement

Walgett takes its name from the Kamilaroi word for the meeting of two rivers — first settled over 40,000 years ago and today a gateway to the Opal fields and an agricultural hub known for wool, beef cattle, cotton and wheat. Located 648km north-west of Sydney, 76km from Lightning Ridge.

Ochre Medical Centre Walgett is a mixed-billing general practice operating Monday to Friday. The practice is co-located with Walgett Multipurpose Service, which provides emergency department care, acute inpatient services and community health services. Ochre is contracted by the Western NSW Local Health District to provide locum doctors to the hospital. On-call is shared across the VMO team, with your roster confirmed ahead of your block.

The Essentials

•       Fellowship with RACGP and/or ACRRM

•       Current AHPRA Specialist GP Registration

•       Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident

•       Current ALS2 (or equivalent)

•       Recent emergency experience within the last 18 months
