The Opportunity

Tomaree Community Hospital provides health care to people living in Nelson Bay and surrounding areas. With a 14-bed adult ward, 5 bed Emergency Department and onsite GP Clinic, services provided include General Medicine, Geriatric, Palliative Care, adult and paediatric emergency care, adult acute medical inpatient care, adult emergency respite and postnatal care for women eligible for early discharge from their obstetric hospital

The modern and well-equipped Emergency Department operates across a mix of shifts per day. The ED is well supported by skilled nursing staff and an onsite GP who runs the Fast Track, seeing Cat 4 & 5 patients, meaning that you will see only those that need you most.

You’ll have the choice of ED day, ED night shifts, or a mix of both: full-time (5 days per week) or part-time (7 days on, 7 days off) with salary ranges of between $450k pa (part-time) - $819k pa (full-time) for 6 months work.

If you prefer ward shifts, you will earn $526k pa for 5 days per week & $368k pa for part-time (7 days on, 7 days off) for a commitment of 6 months.

What we are looking for

Ideally, we’re looking for doctors wanting an ongoing FIFO arrangement or those who live locally and are looking for job security in a more permanent role while earning locum rates.

If you are looking to relocate and call Port Stephens or the wider Nelson Bay region home, we can also help.

GP VMOs will need either FACRRM or FRACGP
Current emergency certification (ALS or equivalent) and recent Emergency experience;
A team player with a genuine interest in rural health.

The Location

Port Stephens is known for its spectacular coastline and pristine waterways, boasting 26 beaches from sheltered outlets to ocean beaches. Newcastle with all the benefits of a metropolitan city is only 45 minutes away and in less than an hour, you'll stumble upon Lake Macquarie, Barrington Tops, and the magnificent Hunter Valley. Port Stephens is an easy 2-hour drive from Sydney or 30 minutes by air.

There's always something to do in Nelson Bay. Whether you embark on a journey of discovery where dolphins and whales grace the coastline, picnic surrounded by nature reserves, take a dip in the beautiful beaches, or indulge in the fine food, wine and cocktails from the local establishments.

The shopping district close to the marina provides a great mix of specialty shops, supermarkets, cafes, and restaurants as well as cinemas, art galleries, bowling club and a golf club.

There are a variety of education options for the family, from pre-school to high school, with Newcastle University only 45 mins away.
