The Opportunity
With a 14-bed adult ward, 5-bed Emergency Department, and on-site GP Clinic, Tomaree Community Hospital provides health care to people living in Nelson Bay and surrounding areas. Services provided include General Medicine, Geriatric, Palliative Care, adult and paediatric emergency care, adult acute medical inpatient care, adult emergency respite, and postnatal care for women eligible for early discharge from their obstetric hospital.
Medical Directions have dedicated roles for VR GPs and ED CMOs and ED Registrars. GPs will join the friendly team working in the Primary Healthcare Clinic and enjoy competitive rates. Emergency Medicine doctors will thrive in the busy pace of the Emergency Department. Day shifts are 10 hours in duration while night shifts are for 14 hours. There are also locum opportunities in the FastTrack GP Clinic.
In addition to locum role, we are seeking an experienced GP to join the team permanently in Nelson Bay. There is no on-call requirement and up to $23,000 in rural incentives to help with training, relocation, travel and more. You'll become part of the wider collegiate clinical team while securing contract work and gaining rural experience with great conditions and remuneration.

Essential Criteria
- GP VMOs will need either FACRRM or FRACGP
- Current emergency certification (ALS or equivalent) and recent Emergency experience;
- A team player with a genuine interest in rural health.
The Location
Port Stephens is known for its spectacular coastline and pristine waterways, boasting 26 beaches from sheltered outlets to ocean beaches. Newcastle with all the benefits of a metropolitan city is only 45 minutes away and in less than an hour, you'll stumble upon Lake Macquarie, Barrington Tops, and the magnificent Hunter Valley. Port Stephens is an easy 2-hour drive from Sydney or 30 minutes by air.
